Nonverbal communication is the communication that happens with gestures and body language. Communication is important in everything that we do, but can be tricky sometimes. While the message and tone of voice are important points of communication, body language can throw a wrench into a conversation and cause the message to be lost. Eye rolls, crossed arms, or even facial gestures are all parts of nonverbal communication (Cherry, 2016). Body language can reveal confidence or shyness, which are important in a workplace setting. Practicing your body language, in front of a mirror or with a partner, can help to improve these skills (Fleming, 2017).
